Refreshing Water In The Desert

On New Year’s Eve 2021 Brandon Carswell released his newest song, “Water In The Desert”.

”This song came to me at the end of some serious personal loss and at the beginning of the pandemic. At it’s core this song is all about fear but a fear of being worthless or useless. When the familiar is taken away there is a danger of feeling stuck and when we are stuck we can feel like we don’t matter. It isn’t true. The worst part is never the step forward but the fear.” -Brandon Carswell

Water In The Desert was recorded 100% remotely at the height of quarantine and lockdowns. Produced by Justin Weaver, there was a lot of time spent getting this one right. Each track was recorded and sent to Justin to upload to the song as a whole. It’s tricky business producing a song remotely. After recording Keep Running (a song released in 2020) in the same fashion Brandon and Justin knew how they wanted to accomplish this one and who they wanted to be a part of it.

“I remember getting the song back after Jimmy put drums on and I thought it was a really rad loop. Well, that’s how good Jimmy Paxson is because it wasn’t a loop at all but a killer drum part that made the song new to me”, says Brandon.

Justin also pulled in piano / synth player Erik Deutsch who’s playing on this song tied it all together with some erie keys reminiscent of water drops falling in odd syncapation to the groove. Justin’s big rhythm guitars became the glue that made the hook stand out and pull the listener in for good.

Water In The Desert is a somber yet encouraging song that may leave you feeling that you too deserve some water in the desert.
